US Steam

Steam on the W&LE
Some great home movies of big steam on the Wheeling and Lake Erie shortly before it was taken over by Nickel Plate.

NYC Water Level Route
The New York Central was already committed to changing over to diesel power when this video was compiled.

Yet their big Niagaras and Hudsons could still haul big trains at high speeds along the Water Level Route – 26-car passenger trains travelling at 160km/h were a daily occurence.

Steam Trains out of Dearborn
Very rare black and white footage (no sound) of steam locos working in and around Dearborn.

Dearborn station provided terminal facilities for quite a few railroad companies including: Chicago and Western Indiana, Wabash, Monon, Grand Trunk Western, Erie, Chicago and Eastern Illinois, and Santa Fe so there is lots of steam action to see here.

Steam was great on the Nickle Plate
Go back to 1958 and watch some rare 16mm footage (with some great sound) of of the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad’s 2-8-4 Berkshires in their last 2 months of operation.
